Abstract

A study was conducted on the effect of grain size, size of specimen and stress gradient on the direct stress fatigue strength of a 2.5 Al-magnesium alloy at room temperature. Specimens with three different grain sizes and seven different notch sizes were used in this investigation. The data are analyzed with regard to relationships between grain size, size of notch, relative stress gradient, stress gradient per grain, and theoretical strength of notched specimens. (auth)
