For nearly twenty years, EDF has confirmed that the operating transients are less severe than design transients. The corresponding transient bookkeeping has enabled EDF to develop a database for more than 540 reactor-years. After a quick presentation of current methodology, this paper presents the main results: in general, the number of operating transients is lower than the design number; few exceptions will be discussed in the paper. After few years of information and training of plant operators a fatigue behavior of the primary circuit of the PWR, some interesting results are now obtained. In 1991, due to differences between design transients and operating transients, the authors decided to revise the initial Stress Report of the 4-loop PWRs with a new transient list. They used to do that updated refined methods for fatigue analysis in order to obtain realistic usage factors. With this new list of transients the unclassified transients are now very limited for the 4-loop PWRs. A similar action is planned for the 3-loop plants. EDF is developing a complete automatic system SYSFAC (SYsteme de Surveillance en FAtigue de la Chaudiere) to survey the fatigue damage of the primary system and the normal and auxiliary feedwater nozzle. A status of this development will be done as a conclusion of this paper.
