Title: Implementation of Air Emissions Control at the new Boston Harbor Treatment Facilities

Abstract

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority`s Deer Island wastewater treatment plant is the nation`s largest new facility to begin operations under the stringent provisions of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. An essential element of the project is an air emissions control system designed to ensure a {open_quote}good neighbor{close_quotes} relationship with the surrounding communities and compliance with all requirements of the applicable federal and state regulations. The design includes covering all unit processes up through and including the secondary reactors and treating the captured off-gases in five Air Emissions Control Facilities (AECs). This paper presents progress through initial operation of the primary treatment AEC facilities.
