Title: Monte Carlo methods for shield design calculations

Abstract

A suite of Monte Carlo codes is being developed for use on a routine basis in commercial shield design. The methods adopted for this purpose include the modular construction of codes, simplified geometries, automatic variance reduction techniques, continuous energy treatment of cross section data, and albedo methods for streaming. Descriptions are given of the implementation of these methods and of their use in practical calculations.
