A personal dosimeter using thermoluminescent material is patented. The dosimeter consists of manganese-activated calcium fluoride containing a small amount of oxide-oxygen in the crystal lattice mounted in an inert atmosphere within an hermetically sealed transparent envelope. The envelope also contains an electrical heater to raise the temperature of the thermoluminescent material above the glow temperature. The intensity of the light emitted by the material is proportional to the amount of ionizing radiation to which it has been exposed and can be measured by a photosensitive device. (M.P.G.)
