Title: THE SATURATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MEAN-CURRENT FISSION IONISATION CHAMBERS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4142350

A study was made of the saturation characteristics of mean current ionization chambers with gas fillings of neon xenon, and nitrogen in which the ionization is due to fission fragments from U/sup 235/. Electrode spacings of 0.5 to 2.0 mm and gas pressures of 360 to 3600/mm Hg were employed it is shown that the best characteristics are obtained at the smaller electrode spacings and lower gas pressures.
