Title: SHORT-RANGE FORCES BETWEEN ATOMS

Abstract

An empirical method is sought for estimating the order of magnitude of C/ sub 12/, which appears in the Lennard-Jones (12,6) potential energy between two atoms. Experimental values for interactions of like rare gas atoms, of rare gas and alkali metal atoms, and of an excited state of calcium and rare gas atoms were assembled. An equation is obtained with only two adjustable parameters. (R.E.U.)
