Title: PHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF RARE EARTHS IN ORES WITH ARSENAZO III (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Zh. Analit. Khim.
OSTI ID:4120261

The photometric method with the use of arsenazo III is the most sensitive and selective for the determination of rare earths. Down to mu g of rare earths in 50 ml at pH 1.8 can be determined by adding 2 ml of a 0.1% arsenazo III solution in the presence of 5 mg of aluminium masked with sulfosalicylic acid and of 0.5 mg of zirconium masked with oxalic acid. Iron reduced with hydroxylamine hydrochloride in amounts of 5 mg does not interfere. Many other elements including magnesium, barium, copper, nickel, manganese, chromium, tin, and titanium do not interfere in amounts by two and more orders higher than those rare earths. The effect of calcium is eliminated by addin its equal amounts into the blank. The method can be used for determining the total rare earths in ores of various deposits. The separation from accompanying elements can be effected by a simple procedure-precipitation of oxalates or hydrates. The necessary sample weight is 0.1 g. The sensitivity of the method is 0.01%.
