The determination of refractive indices of fluoride interference films on the flat surfaces of fused uranium dioxide by immersion spectrophotometry is discussed. The criterion of Bousquet for the equation for normal reflection in air at rough dielectric interfaces with the assumption of no diffusion is applied with surface roughness very much less than the wavelength divided by 10.
