Title: STERIC ISOTOPE EFFECTS. THE ISOTOPE EFFECT ON THE RACEMIZATION OF 2,2'- DIBROMO-4,4'-DICARBOXY-BIPHENYL

Journal Article · · Journal of the American Chemical Society (U.S.)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1021/ja01056a047· OSTI ID:4085696

Optically active 2,2'-dibromo-4,4'-dicarboxybiphenyl specifically deuterated in the 6 and 6' positions was prepared for the appraisal of the importance of steric factors in secondary deuterium isotope effects that allows a comparison between theory and experiment. Results obtained at --19.8 plus or minus 0.1 deg C in ethanol solution are reported. The isotope effect ratio (k/ sub D//K/sub H/) was calculated as 1.19. Data on racemization rates are tabulated.
