Title: METHOD OF CALCULATING LUNG DOSE RECEIVED FROM A CONFINED CLOUD OF RADIOACTIVE GAS

Abstract

A method is described by which the results obtained on a film badge can be used to determine the dose delivered to the lungs by a radioactive gas in a confining situation. The procedure involves the resolving of an infinitely large beta cloud into shells each of which delivers to the ceater point the same fraction of the total dose. The dose received from the beta cloud contained in the confining situation can be determined as some perceatage of the dose which would be delivered from an infinite cloud containing the same concentration of beta activity. The film badge reading is then increased by a factor which will make it equal to the reading that would be obtained from an infinite cloud. From this adjuated film badge reading, the concentration of the radioactive gas and the resulting lung dose can be determined. (auth)
