TEST AND EVALUATION OF LARGE MAGNETIC TAPE-WOUND CORES USED IN THE ASTRON ACCELERATOR
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4069391
The 333 cores are tape-wound toroids of Fe--Ni. Each core is required to support 16 kgauss for 0.4 mu sec. The results of tests of the cores at this rating with a 250-Mw, 1-ohm source are presented as B-H and impedance and DELTA mu vs time plots. The measurement techniques and subsequent data reduction are also described. External coatings were found to increase the mechanical strength of the cores without affecting magnetic properties. Lamination insulation was also developed and tested. (D.C.W.)
