S-AND P-WAVE INTERACTIONS OF K$sup -$ MESONS IN HYDROGEN (thesis)

The experimental study of low-energy K/sup -/ meson interactions in a hydrogen bubble chamber is continued and the energy range extended to a region that involves P waves. Scattering and hyperon-production cross sections are measured at mean K/sup -/ meson laboratory momenta of 300 and 400 Mev/c. Elastic- scattering angular distributions are obtained and, along with the values of the cross sections, indicate the presence of P waves. Breed on 289 observed decays, the measured K/sup -/ meson lifetime is 1.31 plus or minus 0.08 x 10/sup -8/ sec. (auth)
