Recent studies on the specific scavenging properties of Acantari for Sr were reviewed. The studies showed a positive correlation between the natural concentration of Sr and the percentage of Acantari. Measurement of the total BETA radioactivity and of the gamma spectrum has demonstrated the significant increase of radionuclides in marine plankton following the 1961 Russian nuclear explosions. Studies to examine the accumulation of radionuclides in isolated examples of plankton fauna using photographic emulsions are discussed. (J.S.R.)
