CROSS SECTIONS FOR THE ($gamma$,n) REACTION IN Cu$sup 63$, Cu$sup 65$, Zn$sup 64$, Sb$sup 121$ AND Pr$sup 141$, MEASURED WITH MONOCHROMATIC GAMMA RAYS
Cross sections for the ( gamma ,n) reaction in Cu/sup 63/, Cu/sup 65/, Zn/sup 6 / 4>s, Sb/sup 121/, and Pr/sup 141/ were measured using gamma rays from the Li/sup 7/(p, gamma )Be/sup 8/ and B/sup 11/(p, gamma )C/sup 12/ reactions. NaI(Tl) c rystals were used to monitor the radiation and to measure the residual activity. The Cu/sup 63/( gamma ,n)Cu/sup 62/ cross section for the lithium radiation from the 440 kev resonance is 59 plus or minus 6 mb. The cross sections at 12.2, 14.S, 16.7, and 17.6 Mev are then 11 plus or minus 2, 33 plus or minus 4, 63 plus or minus 8, and 73 plus or minus 8 mb, respectively. These results confirm the bremsstrahlung measurement of the shape of the cross section but the absolute cross section values are 25% lower. Cross sections for the lithium resonance radiation, measured relative to that of Cu/sup 63/, are: Cu/ sup 65/, 70 plus or minus 7 mb; Zn/sup 64/, 40 plus or minus 4 mb; Sb/sup / 1>s/sup 21/, 122 plus or minus 13 mb; Pr/sup 141/, 181 plus or minus 20 mb. Comparison with previous results suggests that discrepancies are due to inaccuracies in absolute beta -counting. (auth)
