Title: MEASUREMENT OF THE HYPERFINE STRUCTURE SPLITTING OF THE $sup 4$$F$$sub 9$ OVER $sub 2$ GROUND STATE IN THE Co$sup 59$-I-SPECTRUM AND DETERMINATION OF THE QUADRUPOLE MOMENT OF THE Co$sup 59$ NUCLEUS (in German)

Five of the seven hyperfine structure distances of the electrical ground state a /sup 4/F/sub 9//sub ///sub 2/ in the Co/sup 5//sup 9/ I spectrum w ere measured with a magnetic atomic beam apparatus with the following results: W(F = 8) - W(F = 7) = 3655.470 plus or minus 0.20, W(F = 7) - W(F = 6) = 3169.440 plus or minus 0.05, W(F = 6) - W(F = 5) = W(F = 4) - W(F = 3) = 1774.548 plus or minus 0.05 Mc. From these distances the magnetic dipole and the electric quadrupole interaction constants were determined as A(a /sup 4/F/sub 9//sub /// sub 2/) = 450.284 plus or minus 0.01 Mc and B(a /sup 4/F/sub 9//sub ///sub 2/) = 139.63 plus or minus 0.5 Mc. The metallic cobalt was evaporated from a zirconium oxide crucible heated by electron bombardment. In the calculation of the electric nuclear quadrupole moment of the Co/sup 5//sup 9/ nucleus (without Stennheimer correction) as Q = 0.404 plus or minus 0.04 x 10/sup -//sup 2//sup 4/ cm/sup 2/, the mixing of the 3d/sup 7/ 4s/sup 2/ a /sup 4/F i/sub ///sub 2/ ground state with the states of the 3d/sup 7/ 4s/sup 2/ electron configuration was considered.
