THE INFLUENCE OF RESIDENCE TIME DISTRIBUTION OF FISSION PRODUCT DECAY IN THE MSRE PUMP BOWL AND OFF-GAS LINE
Abstract
A study was naade of the influence of residence time distribution on fission product decay in the MSRE pump bowl and off-gas line. The calculated decay rates in the pump bowl do not differ by more than 30% for a large variation in the assumed shape of the distribution; however, for the same variation there may be a difference of a factor of 10 in activity entering the off-gas line. If one compares an exponential distribution with a gamma distribution with parameter 2, the difference is a factor of 2; these distributions are felt to be physically reasonable ones. (auth)
