The 1.37 Mev gamma rays emitted in 2/sup +/ yields 0/sup +/ transitions in Mg/sup 24/ the 0.85 Mev gamma -rays from 2/sup +/ yields 0/sup +/ transitions in /sup 56/Fe, and the 1.24 Mev gamma -rays from 4/sup +/ yields 2/sup +/ transitions in /sup 56/Fe were studied. Fast neutrons from a reactor were used to excite the target nuclei, and the relative yields of gamma rays were measured as a function of the angle between the incidert neutrons and the outgoing gamma rays. Good agreement is obtained between measured angnlar distributions and distributions calculated using a statistical model. (auth)
