Title: Influence of air gaps in stacked transformer cores consisting of several packages

Abstract

The influence of air gap length g on core loss P and excitation S was investigated in model cores including linearized overlap regions. Special emphasis was put on the interaction of core packages with shifted air gap regions. There, normal flux components {Phi}{sub z} arise into neighboring, gapless package regions. The resulting planar eddy current losses proved to be proportional to the square of {Phi}{sub z}. A correlation was established between local distributions of g, {Phi}{sub z}, P and S.
