Title: The effect of plastic prestrain on the cavitation wear resistance of steels

Abstract

Plastic surface prestrain is shown to affect the cyclic durability of hydraulic machine parts, which, operating in contact with fluid stream, are exposed to periodic loading and cavitation impact. Cavitation failure can occur in both the low-cycle and high-cycle fatigue range. In the former case, surface cold working reduces the durability of machine parts, while in the latter, the durability can be improved only to a certain degree by plastic prestrain.
