A search for production of supersymmetric top in {bar p}p collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV
Abstract
A search for the top quark`s lighter superpartner, {tilde t}{sub 1}, is being performed using {bar p}p collision data from the current Tevatron Collider run. The authors present a preliminary result of their search. Assuming the mass of the {tilde t}{sub 1} is heavier than the sum of the masses of the b quark and the SUSY chargino {tilde W}{sub 1}, they search for {tilde t}{sub 1}{bar {tilde t}}{sub 1} production, where both {tilde t}{sub 1}`s decay to b{tilde W}{sub 1}, followed by b {yields} jet, and {tilde W}{sub 1} {yields} e{nu}{tilde Z}{sub 1} or {mu}{nu}{tilde Z}{sub 1}. The {tilde t}{sub 1}{bar {tilde t}}{sub 1} signature is thus a dilepton and missing transverse energy. The principal backgrounds to this signal are t{bar t}, W+jets, W{sup +}W{sup {minus}}, Z{yields}{tau}{sup +}{tau}{sup {minus}}, and Drell-Yan. The B parameter, has been suggested by Baer et al. to distinguish the {tilde t}{sub 1}{bar {tilde t}}{sub 1} signal from background. The authors examine this B parameter in CDF events, for several {tilde t}{sub 1} masses. For m({tilde t}{sub 1})=70GeV/c{sup 2} and m(t)=170GeV/c{sup 2}, they expect approximately 10 signal events in the 50 pb{sup {minus}1} accumulated by CDF so far. The significance of the signal over backgroundmore »
