Title: Electroproduction of the S{sub 11}(1535) resonance at high momentum transfer

Abstract

The differential cross section for the process p(e,e{sup {prime}}p){eta} has been measured at Q{sup 2}=2.4 and 3.6 (GeV/c){sup 2} at center-of-mass energies encompassing the S{sub 11}(1535) resonance. The latter point is the highest-Q{sup 2} exclusive measurement of this process to date. The resonance width and the helicity-1/2 transition amplitude are extracted from the data, and evidence for the possible onset of scaling in this reaction is shown. A lower bound of {approx}0.45 is placed on the S{sub 11}(1535){r_arrow}p{eta} branching fraction. {copyright} {ital 1999} {ital The American Physical Society}
