The ACTF installed at the 71MWe pressurized fluidized bed combustion (PFBC) demonstration plant at Wakamatsu Power Station of Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. is the first demonstration scale ceramic filter system for high temperature and high pressure application. The ACTF is featured by inside to outside gas flow configuration with enhanced downward flow by a self circulation blowdown system, vertically arranged tubes in three compartments, reverse cleaning system with regenerators and water cooled tube sheets. A extinguishing powder injection system is also provided to protect filter tubes from abnormal boiler operation such as unburned carbon combustion within the filter system. This paper reviews the latest operating experiences of the ACTF at Wakamatsu and design improvements required to realize the ACTF system for the commercial PFBC plants.
