Abstract

To elaborate solid state supramolecular architecture with the Langmuir Blodgett technique, new molecules are designed to fabricate active edifices with high performances. The techniques of a.c. impedance spectroscopy and FTIR spectroscopy are used to investigate the properties of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films deposited respectively on ITO (Indium Tin Oxyde) coated glass electrode, and on Calcium Fluoride plates. 22-tricosenoic acid is transferred from a subphase containing an electrolyte and a redox system (Fe(CN){sup 3{minus}/4{minus}}). The IR spectra show selective insertion of the Fe(CN){sup 4{minus}} ion in the film. Measurements of the complex impedance of 22-tricosenoic acid are then presented and discussed as a function of the number of deposited layers. Electron paramagnetic resonance measurements suggest the possible existence of a transition from a paramagnetic to a magnetically ordered state. A new series of amphiphilic molecules bearing two amide groups along the hydrocarbon chain form head-to-tail Z-type (polar) multilayers by the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) technique, in contrast with the common amphiphiles that tend to deposit in the head-to-head, tail-to-tail Y-type fashion. Supramolecular structure formation of Langmuir-Blodgett films of comblike precursor and polyimide

The surface structure of Langmuir-Blodgett films of a comblike polyimide precursor-a rigid-chain polyamic acid alkylamine salt bearing multichains of tertiary amine-and films of the corresponding polyimide were studied by atomic force microscopy (AFM). An analysis of the images of the surface of three-layer films revealed a domain structure. Infrared transmission and reflection-absorption studies of Langmuir-Blodgett thin films comprised of poly(3-alkylthiophenes) and cadmium stearate

The level and type of molecular orientation present in mixed Langmuir-Blodgett thin films containing poly(3-alkylthiophene) and deuterated cadmium stearate molecules were examined by using transmission and reflection-absorption FTIR techniques. For films fabricated with polythiophenes comprised of butyl, hexyl, or octyl side chains, it was found that the cadmium stearate molecules prefer to assemble into well-ordered, phase-separated stacks with a molecular organization very similar to that observed in homogeneous LB films of this material.
