New dicarbollide complexes of uranium

A series of new uranium complexes incorporating dicarbollide ligands (C{sub 2}B{sub 9}H{sub 11}{sup 2{minus}}) has been synthesized. The uranium(IV) bis(dicarbollide) complex [Li(THF){sub 4}]{sub 2{minus}}[U({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 2}B{sub 9}H{sub 11}){sub 2}Br{sub 2}] was obtained from the reaction of UBr{sub 4}(NCMe){sub 4} with 2 eqUv of Li{sub 2}C{sub 2}B{sub 9}H{sub 11} in THF, and its structure determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Similarly, the uranium(III) complexes [U({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 2}B{sub 9}H{sub 11})I{sub 2}(THF){sub 2}]{sup {minus}} and [U({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 2}B{sub 9}H{sub 11}){sub 2}I-(THF)]{sup 2{minus}} were isolated from the reactions of UI{sub 3{minus}}(THF){sub 4} with different dicarbollide salts, and the structure of the related dimethyldicarbollide complex [(Ph{sub 3}P){sub 2}N][U({eta}{sup 5}-C{sub 2}Me{sub 2}B{sub 9}H{sub 9})I{sub 2}(THF){sub 2}] determined by X-ray crystallography.
