New heavy proton radioactivities {sup 165,166,167}Ir, {sup 171}Au, and {sup 185}Bi
- and others
Proton radioactivities have been produced via the {sup 78}Kr +{sup 92}Mo, {sup 78}Kr + {sup 96}Ru, and {sup 92}Mo +{sup 95}Mo reactions at ATLAS. Reaction products at 0{degrees} were identified by M/q using the Fragment Mass Analyzer (FMA), and implanted into a double-sided silicon strip detector (DSSD) placed behind the FMA focal plane. Using time and position correlations the following new proton radioactivities were identified: {sup 165}Ir (374 {sup +83}{sub -64} {mu}s), {sup 166}Ir (8.8 {sup +2.6}{sub -1.9} ms and 14 {sup +6}{sub -4}ms), {sup 167}Ir (33.7{sup + 2.2}{sub -2.0} ms and 43{sup +11}{sub -8}ms), {sup 171}Au (1.7 {plus_minus} 0.5 ms), and {sup 185}Bi (43{sup +15}{sub -11}{mu}s). In each case the proton emitting isotope was identified by correlations with alpha particles from the daughter nuclides. Proton energies, decay schemes, and the spectroscopic information obtained will be discussed.
