Strained GaAs photocathodes are used for SLAC high energy physics experiments producing high intensity electron beams with up to 85{percent} polarization. We describe three distinctive features of cathode seen in the last two years of usage, and two techniques to investigate strained cathodes. {copyright} {ital 1995 American Institute of Physics.}
