Thermodynamic assessment of the Cu-Nd system

The Al-Cu-Nd quaternary system is one of the important high-strength materials. Knowledge of the phase diagram and thermodynamic properties is of fundamental importance in the production of the materials. In the present work, the calculation for the Cu-Nd binary system is performed. The thermodynamic modeling for this binary system has been conducted by Wang. However, the Cu{sub 7}Nd{sub 2} compound confirmed by Carnasciali et al. and Gu and Song was not included in his evaluation, and the experimental data available at that time were not considered in Wang`s work. Furthermore, the Gibbs energies of Cu and Nd adopted by this author are now out of date. Finally, there have been new experimental data since the previous assessment. Therefore, a new thermodynamic calculation of the binary system is of interest.
