Solving scattering and bound state problems on the light cone

Solving the relativistic scattering and bound state problems in the cannonical quantization at the equal time, {ital t}, suffers from the boost non-invariance when the Fock-space is truncated for practical calculations. The symptom of the boost non-invariance can be cured by the lightcone quantization in which the Fock-states evolute in a particular direction on the lightcone surface such as {tau}={ital t}+{ital z}/{ital c}. Even though the lightcone prescription is accompanied by the side effect of the rotation non-invariance, it is pointed out that the rotation problem is much easier to be treated than the boost problem because of the compactness in the rotation group. We illustrate this point explicitly by analyzing the two-body scattering phase shifts in a simple scalar field model. The solution of the bound state problem is also presented in the same model including the renormalization effects from the self-energy corrections. {copyright} {ital 1995} {ital American} {ital Institute} {ital of} {ital Physics}.
