Regulating the consumption of materials is particularly important in the economics and organization of spray-coating operations. Three main factors are taken into account when establishing norms for the consumption of the materials of the coating: the physicomechanical and chemical properties of the particles; the shape of the substrate; the dimensions of the substrate. The most important parameters of the spraying regime are the velocity and temperature of the particles. Given the same velocity, the optimum particle kinetic energy for producing a strong bond with the substrate depends on particle shape and size and the density of the materials being spray-coated. These parameters determine the heating of the particles in the plasma jet or, in the case of the use of a detonation gun, during collision with the surface of the part. Powders of fragmented or drop shape are used to obtain coatings by spraying.
