Title: Binders for flexible ceramic sheet extrusion

Flexible ceramic tapes are typically manufactured by tape casting or roll compaction. The green extrudate currently produced via conventional binders are brittle after drying. Recently, aqueous acrylic emulsion binder systems for extruding flexible ceramic and metal tapes have been developed. Green tapes made with these acrylic emulsion binder systems have high strength and flexibility both at wet and dry stages. The influence of these binder systems on extrusion parameters, mechanical properties of extrudates, and burnout characteristics are discussed.
