Title: Two new coordination polymers based on tartaric acid ligand: Syntheses, crystal structure and thermal stability

Abstract

Two new coordination polymers [Cd{sub 3}(D-Tar){sub 3}]{sub n} (1) and [Pb(meso-Tar)]{sub n} (2) (H{sub 2}Tar = tartaric acid) have been synthesized by hydrothermal reaction and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and IR spectra. 1 crystallizes in the C222{sub 1} chiral space group and shows a 3D (4,4)-connected net with the (4.6.8{sup 4}){sub 4}(4.6{sup 2}.8{sup 2}.10)(4.6{sup 2}.8{sup 3})(4.6{sup 3}.8{sup 2})(4.6{sup 3}.8{sup 2}){sub 4}(4.8{sup 5}){sub 2} topology. 2 possesses a 3D (4,4)-connected net with the (4{sup 3}.6{sup 2}.8) topology. In addition, the thermogravimetric analyses (TGA) results for polymers are discussed.

  • Two coordination polymers [Co(dnbab){sub 2}(bimb)](H{sub 2}O){sub 4} (1) and [Zn(dnbab){sub 2}(bimb)](H{sub 2}O){sub 5} (2) (Hdnbab=4-[(3,5-dinitrobenzoyl)amino]benzoic acid, bimb=1,4-bis(1-imidazolyl) benzene) have been solvothermally synthesized. Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and further characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and thermogravimetric (TG) analyses. Complexes 1 and 2 are isostructures and each displays an one-dimensional (1D) zigzag chain, which further forms a 3D supramolecular architecture with 1-D channels via inter-chain π–π interactions and hydrogen bonds.   • Three new mixed-ligand metal-organic frameworks based on 5,5′-(butane-1,4- diyl)-bis(oxy)-diisophthalic acid and transitional metal cations with the help of two ancillary bridging N-donor pyridyl and imidazole linkers, [Zn(L){sub 0.5}(4,4′-bpy)]·2(H{sub 2}O) (1), [M(L){sub 0.5}(bib)]·4(H{sub 2}O) (M = Zn (2), Co (3)), (4,4′-bpy=4,4′–bipyridine, bib=1,4-bis (1H-imidazol-1-yl)-butane), have been synthesized under solvothermal conditions. Their structures and properties were determined by single-crystal and powder X-ray diffraction analyses, IR spectra, elemental analyses and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA). Compounds 1–3 display a 3D 3-fold interpenetrated frameworks linked by the L{sup 4−} ligands, ancillary N-donor linkers and the free water molecules in the crystal lattice. Topological analysis reveals that 1–3more » are a (4,4)-connected bbf topology net with the (6{sup 4}·8{sup 2})(6{sup 6}) topology. The effects of the L{sup 4−} anions, the N-donor ligands, and the metal ions on the structures of the coordination polymers have been discussed.   • The polymeric heterometallic [NdSn{sub 2}(H(Tart){sub 3}) ∙ 12H{sub 2}O]{sub n} (I) compound, where H{sub 4}Tart is the tartaric acid, is synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, and IR spectroscopy. The structural elements of crystal I, namely, polymeric [(Nd(H{sub 2}O){sub 6})(μ{sub 3}-H{sub n}Tart{sup 4–n}) (Sn(μ{sub 2}-H{sub n}Tart{sup 4–n})){sub 2}) (n = 0, 1) complex molecules and crystallization water molecules, are connected by an extended hydrogen-bond system.
  • The hydrothermal reactions of isonicotinic acid (HIso) and metal salts yielded two novel 3-D coordination polymers {l_brace}[Cu{sub 4}(Iso){sub 4}({mu} {sub 3}-O){sub 2}(C{sub 2}H{sub 5}OH){sub 2}].2C{sub 2}H{sub 5}OH.C{sub 2}H{sub 6}N{sub 4}{r_brace} {sub n} (1), {l_brace}[Cd(Iso){sub 2}(H{sub 2}O)].OHCCHO{r_brace} {sub n} (2), in which 1 was constructed from 32-membered rings and 3-D interpenetrating network of 2 from 42-membered rings. The fluorescent characterizations show the emissions at 565 nm for 1 and 440 nm for 2 possibly assigned to LMCT and IL, respectively.

Compounds 1-2 are a one-dimensional chain with weak interactions to form 3D supramolecular structures. Compound 3 is a 4-nodal 3D topology framework comprised of binuclear zincmore » units and (ctpy){sup -} anions. Compound 4 shows two dimensional net. Compound 5 is a (4,5,6)-connected framework with {l_brace}4{sup 4}{center_dot}6{sup 2}{r_brace}{l_brace}4{sup 6}{center_dot}6{sup 4}{r_brace}{sub 2}{l_brace}4{sup 9}{center_dot}6{sup 6}{r_brace} topology. In addition, the thermal stabilities and photoluminescence properties of 1-5 were also studied in the solid state. - Graphical abstract: Five new Zn/Cd compounds with 3,2 Prime :6 Prime ,3 Prime Prime -terpyridine-4 Prime -carboxylic acid were prepared.
