Title: Higher dimensional curved domain walls on Kähler surfaces

Abstract

In this paper we study some aspects of curved BPS-like domain walls in higher dimensional gravity theory coupled to scalars where the scalars span a complex Kähler surface with scalar potential turned on. Assuming that a fake superpotential has a special form which depends on Kähler potential and a holomorphic function, we prove that BPS-like equations have a local unique solution. Then, we analyze the vacuum structure of the theory including their stability using dynamical system and their existence in ultraviolet-infrared regions using renormalization group flow.

  • We use Hamiltonian methods to study curved domain walls and cosmologies. This leads naturally to first-order equations for all domain walls and cosmologies foliated by slices of maximal symmetry. For Minkowski and AdS-sliced domain walls (flat and closed FLRW cosmologies) we recover a recent result concerning their (pseudo)supersymmetry. We show how domain-wall stability is consistent with the instability of AdS vacua that violate the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound. We also explore the relationship to Hamilton-Jacobi theory and compute the wave-function of a 3-dimensional closed universe evolving towards de Sitter spacetime.
  • We discuss maximally symmetric curved deformations of the flat domain wall solutions of five-dimensional dilaton gravity that appeared in a recent approach to the cosmological constant problem. By analyzing the bulk field configurations and the boundary conditions at a four-dimensional maximally symmetric curved domain wall, we obtain constraints on such solutions. For a special dilaton coupling to the brane tension that appeared in recent works, we find no curved deformations, confirming and extending slightly a result of Arkani-Hamed which was argued using a Z{sub 2} symmetry of the solution. For more general dilaton-dependent brane tension, we find that the curvaturemore » is bounded by the Kaluza-Klein scale in the fifth dimension.« less
  • We present simple models of N= 4 supersymmetric mechanics with ordinary and mirror linear (4, 4, 0) multiplets that give a transparent description of Hyper-Kähler with Torsion (HKT), Clifford Kähler with Torsion (CKT), and Octonionic Kähler with Torsion (OKT) geometries. These models are treated in the N= 4 and N=2 superfield approaches, as well as in the component approach. Our study makes manifest that the CKT and OKT supersymmetric sigma models are distinguished from the more simple HKT models by the presence of extra holomorphic torsion terms in the supercharges.

  • The quantum effective action is computed at finite temperatures in a Robertson-Walker type of metric suggested in Kaluza-Klein theories. The most interesting result is that above a critical temperature the effective gravitational constant becomes negative if the extra dimension is large enough. This provides a mechanism for the bounce from a contracting phase and may explain how the extra space has decoupled from the general expansion. The bounce mechanism also leads to a picture of the recycling universe, in which entropy produced after many cycles of expansion and contraction may solve the horizon and the flatness problem of the standardmore » cosmology.« less
