Title: Influence of dimension parameters of the gravity heat pipe on the thermal performance

Abstract

Currently the problem with the increasing number of electronic devices is a problem with the outlet Joule heating. Joule heating, also known as ohmic heating and resistive heating, is the process by which the passage of an electric current through a conductor releases heat. Perfect dustproof cooling of electronic components ensures longer life of the equipment. One of more alternatives of heat transfer without the using of mechanical equipment is the use of the heat pipe. Heat pipes are easy to manufacture and maintenance of low input investment cost. The advantage of using the heat pipe is its use in hermetic closed electronic device which is separated exchange of air between the device and the environment. This experiment deals with the influence of changes in the working tube diameter and changing the working fluid on performance parameters. Changing the working fluid and the tube diameter changes the thermal performance of the heat pipe. The result of this paper is finding the optimal diameter with ideal working substance for the greatest heat transfer for 1cm{sup 2} sectional area tube.

  • The application of heat pipes as heat transport elements in a latent heat thermal energy store for solar heating systems is proposed. The paper describes the development of a long and slender, axially grooved, cooper-water heat pipe, 20 mm in diameter and 3070 mm long. The heat pipe, charged with a liquid overfill, was operated with slight gravity assistance and tessted in varrious operational modes that simulated charging, discharging, and bypass of the heat store. Periodic temperature oscillations at the evaporator wall, dependent on the amount of liquid overfill and heat pipe tilt, resulted in adverse performance, forcing modifications inmore » the capillary structure. An entrainment model to describe the wall temperature oscillations is presented. Futhermore, results from three test series, characterized the type of capillary structure used, are discussed.« less
  • This article presents a theoretical model for the determination of the efficiency, the heat removal factor, and the outlet water temperature of a single collector and an array of flat-pipe heat-pipe collectors. The model is validated by on-site testing of 16 heat-pipe collectors under the typical weather conditions in Singapore. Within the operational range of interest of the hot water temperatures, the results show that the proposed model is sufficient to describe the steady-state performance of the collector array.
  • Arrays of heat pipes placed in soil may be used to good advantage for cooling or heating equipment. This paper gives results of a study that included the coupling of heat pipe thermal characteristics with soil thermal characteristics for such applications. A transient mathematical model was developed for the combination that accounted for thermal capacitance and resistance of the individual heat pipes, the number and arrangement of heat pipes in the soil, and soil properties. The model was verified by comparing it with published experimental and analytical results. Parametric studies were then performed, and the results were used to developmore » some correlation equations that may be used to predict the thermal performance of arrays of heat pipes in soil. The dependence of spacing, type of array, heat pipe properties, and soil properties is included in the simple correlation equations.« less
