Fluctuation of heat current in Josephson junctions
Abstract
We discuss the statistics of heat current between two superconductors at different temperatures connected by a generic weak link. As the electronic heat in superconductors is carried by Bogoliubov quasiparticles, the heat transport fluctuations follow the Levitov–Lesovik relation. We identify the energydependent quasiparticle transmission probabilities and discuss the resulting probability density and fluctuation relations of the heat current. We consider multichannel junctions, and find that heat transport in diffusive junctions is unique in that its statistics is independent of the phase difference between the superconductors.

Fluctuation resistance of Josephson junctions
The influence of superconducting fluctuations on the singleparticle current in various types of tunnel junctions is considered. It is shown that there are two different fluctuation contributions to the current. The first is due to the fluctuations of the density of states in the superconductors that make up the junction, and the second to the interaction of the fluctuations through the barrier. Both contributions decrease the current flowing through a Josephson junction, but manifest themselves at different voltage scales. The type of the extrema that appear in the dependence of the differential resistance on the voltage is determined by themore »
Nonequilibrium fluctuationinduced phenomena in Josephson junctions
We show that nonequilibrium current fluctuations of various types can give rise to {ital net} voltages in superconducting tunnel junctions. This is the result of a fluctuationinduced net rate of change of the phase difference of the superconducting order parameter across the junction. Various exact expressions are derived for the mean voltage and are evaluated explicitly in certain limits, as well as by numerical simulations. We show that these phenomena are due to an asymmetry in the spectral properties of the current noise, which should be a fairly ubiquitous feature of nonequilibrium fluctuations in nature. {copyright} {ital 1996 The Americanmore »
Fluctuation effects on IV characteristics of superconducting Josephson junctions
An analysis is made of the effect of current fluctuations for an rf currentdriven Josephson junction in the superconducting regime. The resistively shunted junction model and a transition rate theory between superconducting and dissipative states are used. A new approach is introduced which makes it possible to take into account the fact that, as the applied current amplitude is increased, the number of fluctuation sites increases. The results show that there is an upper cutoff frequency above which fluctuations exist over a current range starting from a given current amplitude (which is shown to be frequencydependent) up to the criticalmore »
Zeropoint fluctuation and noise phenomena in Josephson junctions
It is suggested that the noise rise in Josephson parametric amplifiers can be interpreted as being the result of the zeropoint fluctuation arising from the uncertainty principle. The fluctuation of the phase is calculated and related to the bandwidth of the plasmons of the superconducting pair. Thus an explanation is given not only of the origin of the noise, but also of the main experimental characteristics of the noise phenomena.
