Title: Quantum ion-acoustic wave oscillations in metallic nanowires

Abstract

The low-frequency electrostatic waves in metallic nanowires are studied using the quantum hydrodynamic model, in which the electron and ion components of the system are regarded as a two-species quantum plasma system. The Poisson equation as well as appropriate quantum boundary conditions give the analytical expressions of dispersion relations of the surface and bulk quantum ion-acoustic wave oscillations.

  • In this paper, a charged multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT), which is surrounded by charged nanoparticles, is modeled as a cylindrical shell of electron-ion-dust plasma. By employing the classical electrodynamics formulations and linearized hydrodynamic model, the dispersion relation of the dust-ion-acoustic wave oscillations in the composed system is investigated. We obtain a new low-frequency electrostatic excitation in the MWCNTs, i.e., dust-ion-acoustic wave oscillations.
  • Conditions for acoustic excitations are studied by quantum dispersion equations for electron-ion plasma. lt is shown that in strong magnetic fields longitudinal ultrasonic vibrations with a wave vector perpendicular to the magnetic field vector degenerate into ion vibrations, since in this case the screening radius becomes infinite. The decay frequency of ultrasonic waves moving along the magnetic field as well as across it is calculated. The decay frequency is found tc oscillate depending on the magnetic field strength. (auth)
  • The characteristics and stability of ion acoustic solitary wave with transverse perturbations are examined in ultracold quantum magnetospheric plasma consisting of electrons, positrons, and ions. Using the quantum hydrodynamic model, a dispersion relation in the linear regime, and the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation in the nonlinear regime are derived. The quantum corrections are studied through quantum statistics and diffraction effects. It is found that compressive solitary wave can propagate in this system. The quantum effects are also studied graphically for both linear and nonlinear profiles of ion acoustic wave. Using energy consideration method, conditions for existence of stable solitary waves are obtained.more » It is found that stable solitary waves depend on quantum corrections, positron concentration, and direction cosine of the wave vector k along the x axis.« less
