Finite amplitude method, which we have recently proposed, is applied to calculations of photoabsorption cross sections in light-mass to medium-mass nuclei. The method provides an alternative and feasible approach to fully self-consistent calculations of the random-phase approximation. We adopt a Skyrme functional and solve the linear-response equations directly in the three-dimensional coordinate space representation. As an example of our recent results, systematic behavior of the peak energies of the giant dipole resonance are shown for even-even nuclei.
