Dynamics of coherent structures in a Penning-Malmberg trap with 2D Vlasov simulations

Preliminary results on the drift dynamics of electrons in a Penning-Malmberg trap, obtained by means of a two-dimensional electrostatic fluid code, are presented. The code solves the continuity equation for the electron density in the guiding center approximation, coupled to the Poisson equation for the electrostatic potential. The drift velocity is simply due to the ExB-drift.
