Title: Multiple triaxial SD bands in {sup 163,164}Lu studied with EUROBALL

Abstract

High-spin states in {sup 163,164}Lu have been populated in the {sup 139}La({sup 29}Si,xn) reaction and their decay has been studied using the EUROBALL {gamma}-ray spectrometer array. In {sup 164}Lu eight new superdeformed (SD) bands have been found. In {sup 163}Lu the previously known SD band is extended to lower and higher spins and its decay to the normal-deformed states has been established. In addition, a new SD band is identified. Calculations with the Ultimate Cranker code predict large triaxiality ({gamma}{approx_equal}{+-}20 deg.) for all these bands.
