The formation of O{sub 2}(b {sup 1}{sigma}{sub g}{sup +}) in the ultraviolet photodissociation of O{sub 3} (335-352 nm) has been observed for the first time using (2+1) resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization. Measurement of the photofragment kinetic energy confirms that the primary photodissociation step involves the absorption of a single photon.
