A review about on the spectroscopy of light scalar mesons is given. Special emphasis is given to the results in antiproton-proton annihilation, where the observation of the f{sub 0}(1500) as a possible candidate for the scalar glueball has stimulated the discussion about the lowest lying scalar mesons. Possible assignments of nonets will be discussed with the focus to open questions in experiment and theory.
