Title: Inclusive Production of {rho}{+-}(770) Meson in Hadronic Decays of Z0 Boson

Abstract

The inclusive production of the charged vector meson {rho}{+-}(770) in hadronic Z decays is measured with the ALEPH detector at the LEP collider. Decays of {rho}{+-} {yields} {pi}0 + {pi}{+-} are reconstructed for x > 0.05 where x = E{rho}/Ebeam. The results are compared with Monte Carlo model predictions and OPAL measurements. Bose-Einstein effects are found to be important in extracting {rho}{+-}(770) from two pion invariant mass spectra.

  • We have measured inclusive distributions for charged particles in hadronic decays of the {ital Z} boson. The variables chosen for study were charged-particle multiplicity, scaled momentum, and momenta transverse to the sphericity axes. The distributions have been corrected for detector effects and are compared with data from {ital e}{sup +}{ital e}{sup {minus}} annihilation at lower energies and with the predictions of several QCD-based models. The data are in reasonable agreement with expectations.
  • We summarize the work [1] where we studied the few body system made of several {rho}(770) mesons. Based on the very strong interaction of two {rho}(770) vector mesons in spin 2 and isospin 0, we show that the resonances {rho}3(1690)(3{sup --}), f4(2050)(4{sup ++}), {rho}5(2350)(5{sup --}) and f6(2510)(6{sup ++}) can be interpreted as few body systems made of an increasing number of {rho}(770) particles. The fixed center approximation of the Faddeev equations is used in order to write the multi-body interaction in terms of the elementary two-body scattering amplitudes. Very good agreement with the experimental masses is found. An extension ofmore » the model to include also the interaction with K*(895) is discussed.« less
  • We report results on a Dalitz analysis of three-body charmless B{sup {+-}}{yields}K{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {+-}}{pi}{sup {+-}} decay including searches for direct CP violation. We report the first observation of the decay B{sup {+-}}{yields}f{sub 2}(1270)K{sup {+-}} with a statistical significance above 6{sigma}. We also observe first evidence for large direct CP violation in the B{sup {+-}}{yields}{rho}(770){sup 0}K{sup {+-}} channel. The results are obtained with a data sample that contains 386x10{sup 6} BB pairs collected at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e{sup +}e{sup -} collider.
  • We study the contribution of the strong interactions between the two pions in S and P waves to the weak B{yields}{pi}{pi}K decay amplitudes. The interference between these two waves is analyzed in the {pi}{pi} effective-mass range of the {rho}(770){sup 0} and f{sub 0}(980) resonances. We use a unitary {pi}{pi} and KK coupled-channel model to describe the S-wave interactions and a Breit-Wigner function for the P-wave amplitude. The weak B-decay amplitudes, obtained from QCD factorization, are supplemented with charming penguin contributions in both waves. The four complex parameters of these long-distance terms are determined by fitting the model to the BABARmore » and Belle data on B{sup {+-}}{sup ,0}{yields}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}K{sup {+-}}{sup ,0} branching fractions, CP asymmetries, {pi}{pi} effective-mass and helicity-angle distributions. This set of data, and, in particular, the large direct CP asymmetry for B{sup {+-}}{yields}{rho}(770){sup 0}K{sup {+-}} decays, is well reproduced. The interplay of charming penguin amplitudes and the interference of S and P waves describes rather successfully the experimental S and A values of the CP-violating asymmetry for both B{sup 0}{yields}f{sub 0}(980)K{sub S}{sup 0} and B{sup 0}{yields}{rho}(770){sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0} decays.« less
  • The inclusive production of rho/sup 0/ mesons in high-energy pp interactions is examined with the aid of a theory based on the precise satisfaction of Heisenberg's uncertainty relation. The results are in satisfactory agreement with the experimental data.
