Title: Probing QCD with jets at the Tevatron

Abstract

The selected results on QCD jets measured in pp-bar collisions at {radical}(s) = 1.96TeV at the Tevatron Collider at Fermilab are presented in this conference note. The experimental data from CDF and DO detectors are compared against perturbative QCD calculations.

  • Prompt photons with high transverse momenta in pp-bar collisions at {radical}(s) = 1.96TeV at the Tevatron collider have been studied by CDF and DO collaborations. In this paper I present results on production cross-sections for: isolated photons (DO), photons with heavy flavor jets (CDF) and di-photon final states (CDF). The experimental data are compared against predictions of several QCD models.
  • The production of b-quark jets is considered in the approach of quasi-multi-Regge kinematics. This approach is based on the hypothesis of the Reggeization of t-channel gluons and quarks at high energies. Experimental data obtained by the CDF and D0 Collaborations at the Tevatron Collider for various spectra of b-quark jets are described quite accurately without invoking free parameters.
  • A summary of ATLAS measurements that probe 'hard' QCD interactions in the protonproton collisions of the LHC are presented.
  • We investigate off-resonance chargino-neutralino production via the reaction [ital p[bar p]][r arrow][ital W][sup *][r arrow][ital [tilde W]][sub 1][ital [tilde Z]2][ital X] within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. This reaction can lead to observable rates for hadronically quiet trilepton events for which standard model backgrounds are small. Evaluation of these rates allows us to conclude that, after the accumulation of 100 pb[sup [minus]1] of integrated luminosity, the collider detector at Fermilab and D0 experiments can explore significant regions of MSSM parameter space beyond the reach of the CERN [ital e][sup +][ital e[minus]]more » collider LEP, and in some cases beyond the reach of LEP 200. The dilepton signal from chargino pair production is also briefly discussed.« less
  • We investigated the possibilities of probing the ..gamma..WW couplings through pp-bar..-->..W..gamma..X at the Fermilab Tevatron. Of the seven general form factors f/sub i/, i = 1,...,7, only four are independent for an on-shell photon. We may obtain bounds of order 0.5 and 0.1, respectively, on f/sub 2/ and f/sub 7/ when the integrated luminosity at the Fermilab Tevatron reaches a few pb/sup -1/. It is difficult to obtain useful bounds on f/sub 6/ and ..delta..f/sub 3/, the deviation of f/sub 3/ from its standard-model value, even if the polarization of W or ..gamma.. can be measured.
