Title: CP-odd static electromagnetic properties of the W gauge boson and the t quark via the anomalous tbW coupling

Abstract

In the framework of the electroweak chiral Lagrangian, the one-loop induced effects of the anomalous tbW coupling, which includes both left- and right-handed complex components, on the static electromagnetic properties of the W boson and the t quark are studied. The attention is focused mainly on the CP-violating electromagnetic properties. It is found that the tbW anomalous coupling can induce both CP-violating moments of the W boson, namely, its electric dipole ({mu}-tilde{sub W}) and magnetic quadrupole (Q-tilde{sub W}) moments. As far as the t quark is concerned, a potentially large electric dipole moment (d{sub t}) can arise due to the anomalous tbW coupling. The most recent bounds on the tbW coupling left- and right-handed parameters from B meson physics lead to the following estimates {mu}-tilde{sub W}{approx}4x10{sup -23}-4x10{sup -22} e{center_dot}cm and Q-tilde{sub W}{approx}10{sup -38}-10{sup -37} e{center_dot}cm{sup 2}, which are 7 and 14 orders of magnitude larger than the standard model (SM) predictions, whereas d{sub t} may be as large as 10{sup -22} e{center_dot}cm, which is about 8 orders of magnitude larger than its SM counterpart.

  • Trilinear Neutral Gauge Boson Couplings (TNGBCs), namely ZZZ, ZZ{gamma}, and Z{gamma}{gamma} may be highly sensitive to any new physics effects as their amplitude is extremely suppressed in any renormalizable theory such as the standard model (SM), where these class of couplings arise up to the one-loop level. Even more, in the SM, CP-odd TNGBCs are more suppressed than CP-even ones as the former are absent at the one loop level. This opens up the window to examine CP-violating effects on TNGBCs induced by new sources of CP-violation. Along these lines, we analyze the possible CP-violation on TNGBCS induced by themore » most general renormalizable tcZ coupling.« less
  • We investigate the possibility of detecting [ital CP]-odd angular correlations in the various decay modes of the neutral Higgs boson including the modes of a [ital ZZ] pair, a [ital W][sup +][ital W[minus]] pair, or a heavy quark pair. It is a natural way to probe the [ital CP] character of the Higgs boson once it is identified. Final state interactions (i.e., the absorptive decay amplitude) are not required in such correlations. As an illustrative example we take the fundamental source of [ital CP] nonconservation to be in the Yukawa couplings of the Higgs boson to the heavy fermions. Amore » similar correlation in the process [ital e][sup +][ital e[minus]][r arrow][ital l][sup +][ital l[minus]][ital H] is also proposed. Our analysis of these correlations will be useful for experiments in future colliders such as the CERN LEP II, SSC, CERN LHC, or NLC.« less
  • The results of searches for effects beyond the Standard Model in processes of single top-quark production in the CMS experiment are presented. Anomalous contributions of the vector and magnetic types in top-quark interaction with the W boson and b quark and quark-flavor-changing neutral currents in top-quark interaction with the c or u quark via gluon exchange were studied. The respective analysis was performed with the aid of Bayesian neural networks. No statistically significant deviations were found, and upper limits on anomalous couplings at a 95% confidence level were set.
  • A sensitive way to test the anomalous HVV (V=W{sup {+-}},Z{sup 0}) couplings via pp{yields}W{sup +}W{sup +}jj{yields}l{sup +}{nu}l{sup +}{nu}jj at LHC was proposed by Zhang, Kuang, He, and Yuan [Phys. Rev. D 67, 114024 (2003)]. We studied the sensitivity to measure the anomalous gauge couplings of Higgs boson with optimized cuts. In this way, the sensitivity can be enhanced. Based on the optimized cuts and distribution of {delta}Pt(ll), the measurement of the couplings can be further improved with a binned maximum likelihood fit. It shows that, with an integrated luminosity of 300 fb{sup -1}, the anomalous HWW and HZZ couplings canmore » be measured at the level of 0.007-0.032 and 0.007-0.013 TeV{sup -1}, respectively, for the linearly realized effective Lagrangian.« less
  • We revisit the effect of CP violating anomalous top-quark couplings in tt production and decay. We consider tt production through gluon fusion (and light qq annihilation) followed by top-quark decay into bW or bl{nu}. We find explicit analytic expressions for all the triple products generated by the anomalous couplings that fully incorporate all spin correlations. Our results serve as a starting point for numerical simulations for the CERN LHC.
