Title: Two-loop ultrasoft running of the O(v{sup 2}) QCD quark potentials

Abstract

The two-loop ultrasoft contributions to the next-to-leading logarithmic (NLL) running of the QCD potentials at order v{sup 2} are determined. The results represent an important step towards the next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic (NNLL) description of heavy quark pair production and annihilation close to threshold.

  • The one-loop QCD heavy-quark potential is computed to order v{sup 2} in the color singlet and octet channels. Several errors in the previous literature are corrected. To be consistent with the velocity power counting, the full dependence on |p+p{sup '}|/|p{sup '}-p| is kept. The matching conditions for the NRQCD one-loop potential are computed by comparing the QCD calculation with that in the effective theory. The graphs in the effective theory are also compared to terms from the hard, soft, potential, and ultrasoft regimes in the threshold expansion. The issue of off-shell versus on-shell matching and gauge dependence is discussed inmore » detail for the 1/(m|k|) term in the potential. Matching on-shell gives a 1/(m|k|) potential that is gauge independent and does not vanish for QED. (c) 2000 The American Physical Society.« less
  • By means of a low-energy theorem, we analyze at {ital O}({alpha}{sub {ital sG}}{sub {ital FM}}{sup 2}{sub {ital Q}}) the shifts in the standard-model {ital W}{sup +}{ital W}{sup {minus}}{ital H} and {ital ZZH} couplings induced by virtual high-mass quarks {ital Q} with {ital M}{sub {ital Q}}{gt}{ital M}{sub {ital Z}},{ital M}{sub {ital H}}, which includes the top quark. Invoking the improved Born approximation, we then find the corresponding corrections to various four- and five-point Higgs-boson production and decay processes which involve the {ital W}{sup +}{ital W}{sup {minus}}{ital H} and {ital ZZH} vertices with one or both of the gauge bosons being connectedmore » to light-fermion currents, respectively. This includes {ital e}{sup +}{ital e}{sup {minus}}{r_arrow}{ital f{bar f}H} via Higgs radiation, via {ital W}{sup +}{ital W}{sup {minus}} fusion (with {ital f}={nu}{sub {ital e}}), and via {ital ZZ} fusion (with {ital f}={ital e}), as well as {ital H}{r_arrow}2{ital V}{r_arrow}4{ital f} (with {ital V}={ital W},{ital Z}). {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}« less
  • The paper is devoted to the calculation of two-loop {sigma}(O) {alpha}{sub s}{sup 2}) MSSM corrections to the relation between the pole mass of the t quark and its running mass in the {sigma}(DR-bar) scheme. Firstly, the value of the second-order contribution from large-mass expansion in mt/M{sub SUSY} is studied. Contrary to our expectations, this contribution turned out to be negligible. As a by-product of this calculation, the two-loop anomalous dimension of the running quark {sigma}(DR-bar) mass is obtained in the supersymmetric QCD. Secondly, the influence of the two-loop corrections to the t-quark mass on the predicted superpartner masses is investigated.

  • We present O({alpha}{sup 2}{sub s}) corrections to the cross section for e{sup +}e{sup {minus}}{r_arrow}{gamma}{sup *}{r_arrow}Q {bar Q} close to threshold. We assume that the energy of the reaction is such that both the perturbative expansion in the strong coupling constant {alpha}{sub s} and expansion in the velocity {beta} of the heavy quarks can be used. We obtain terms O({alpha}{sup 2}{sub s}/{beta}{sup 2},{alpha}{sup 2}{sub s}/{beta},{alpha}{sup 2}{sub s}) in the relative correction. We demonstrate how an expansion of Feynman diagrams in the threshold region is constructed. We obtain a matching relation between the vector current in full QCD and in nonrelativistic QCD.more » {copyright} {ital 1998} {ital The American Physical Society}« less
