Title: Measurement of B decays to {phi}K{gamma}

Abstract

We search for the decays B{sup -}{yields}{phi}K{sup -}{gamma} and B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sup 0}{gamma} in a data sample of 228x10{sup 6} BB pairs collected at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. We measure the branching fraction B(B{sup -}{yields}{phi}K{sup -}{gamma})=(3.5{+-}0.6{+-}0.4)x10{sup -6} and set an upper limit B(B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sup 0}{gamma})<2.7x10{sup -6} at the 90% confidence level. We also measure the direct CP asymmetry in B{sup -}{yields}{phi}K{sup -}{gamma}, A{sub CP}=(-26{+-}14{+-}5)%. The uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

  • We measure the time-dependent CP asymmetry parameters in B{sup 0}{yields}K{sup +}K{sup -}K{sup 0} based on a data sample of approximately 227x10{sup 6} B-meson pairs recorded at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-meson Factory at SLAC. We reconstruct two-body B{sup 0} decays to {phi}(1020)K{sub S}{sup 0} and {phi}(1020)K{sub L}{sup 0}, and the three-body decay K{sup +}K{sup -}K{sub S}{sup 0} with {phi}(1020)K{sub S}{sup 0} excluded. For the B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sup 0} decays, we measure sin2{beta}{sub eff}({phi}K{sup 0})=+0.50{+-}0.25(stat){sub -0.04}{sup +0.07}(syst). The B{sup 0}{yields}K{sup +}K{sup -}K{sub S}{sup 0} decays are dominated by K{sup +}K{sup -} S wave, as determined frommore » an angular analysis; we measure sin2{beta}{sub eff}(K{sup +}K{sup -}K{sub S}{sup 0})=+0.55{+-}0.22(stat){+-}0.04(syst){+-}0.11(CP), where the last error is due to the uncertainty in the fraction of CP-even contributions to the decay amplitude. We find no evidence for direct CP violation.« less
  • We have observed the decays B {yields} phi K and phi K* in a sample of over 45 million B mesons collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider. The measured branching fractions are BF(B{sup +} {yields} phi K{sup +}) = (7.7{sub -1.4}{sup +1.6}+/- 0.8) x 10{sup -6}, BF(B{sup 0} {yields} phi K{sup 0}) =(8.1{sub -2.5}{sup +3.1}+/- 0.8) x 10{sup -6}, BF(B{sup +} {yields} phi K*{sup +}) = (9.7{sub -3.4}{sup +4.2}+/- 1.7) x 10{sup -6}, and BF(B{sup 0} {yields} phi K*{sup 0}) = (8.6{sub -2.4}{sup +2.8}+/- 1.1) x 10{sup -6}. We also report the upper limit BF(B{sup +} {yields}more » phi pi{sup +}) < 1.4 x 10{sup -6} (90 percent CL).« less
  • A lattice calculation of the form factors that determine the hadronization ratios,'' such as [ital R][sub [ital K]][sup *] and [ital R][sub [phi]], where [ital R][sub [ital K]][sup *][equivalent to][[Gamma]([ital B][r arrow][ital K][sup *][gamma])/[Gamma]([ital b][r arrow][ital s][gamma])], is presented in the quenched approximation. Lattice data shows strong evidence for the scaling law suggested by heavy quark symmetry for one of the form factors (i.e., [ital T][sub 2]). The data also gives strong support for the simple pole ansatz for the [ital q][sup 2] dependence of [ital T][sub 2] in the range of available [ital q][sup 2]. We thus find [italmore » T][sub 2](0)=0.10[plus minus]0.01[plus minus]0.03, yielding [ital R][sub [ital K]][sup *]=(6.0[plus minus]1.2[plus minus]3.4)%; we also find [ital R][sub [phi]]=(6.6[plus minus]1.3[plus minus]3.7)%.« less
  • We present improved measurements of CP-violation parameters in B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sup 0}, {eta}{sup '}K{sup 0}, K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0} decays based on a sample of 535x10{sup 6} BB pairs collected at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. We obtain sin2{phi}{sub 1}{sup eff}=+0.64{+-}0.10(stat){+-}0.04(syst) for B{sup 0}{yields}{eta}{sup '}K{sup 0}, +0.50{+-}0.21(stat){+-}0.06(syst) for B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}K{sup 0}, and +0.30{+-}0.32(stat){+-}0.08(syst) for B{sup 0}{yields}K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0}K{sub S}{sup 0} decays. We have observed CP violation in the B{sup 0}{yields}{eta}{sup '}K{sup 0} decay with a significance of 5.6 standard deviations. We also perform an improved measurementmore » of CP asymmetries in B{sup 0}{yields}J/{psi}K{sup 0} decays and obtain sin2{phi}{sub 1}=+0.642{+-}0.031(stat){+-}0.017(syst)« less
  • This Letter reports on measurements of the longitudinal polarization fractions in the decays {ital B}{sub {ital d}}{r_arrow}{ital J}/{psi}{ital K}{sup *0} and {ital B}{sub {ital s}}{r_arrow}{ital J}/{psi}{phi} using data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. {ital B}{sub {ital d}} mesons are reconstructed through the decay chain {ital B}{sub {ital d}}{r_arrow}{ital J}/{psi}{ital K}*, {ital J}/{psi}{r_arrow}{mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}}, {ital K}{sup *0}{r_arrow}{ital K}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}}. A sample of 65{plus_minus}10{ital B}{sub {ital d}} events is used to obtain a longitudinal polarization fraction of {Gamma}{sub {ital L}}/{Gamma}=0.65{plus_minus}0.10(stat){plus_minus}0.04(syst). {ital B}{sub {ital s}} mesons are reconstructed through the decay chain {ital B}{sub {ital s}}{r_arrow}{ital J}/{psi}{phi}, {ital J}/{psi}{r_arrow}{mu}{supmore » +}{mu}{sup {minus}}, {phi}{r_arrow}{ital K}{sup +}{ital K}{sup {minus}}. A sample of 19{plus_minus}5{ital B}{sub {ital s}} events is used to obtain the result {Gamma}{sub {ital L}}/{Gamma}=0.56{plus_minus}0.21(stat){sub {minus}0.04}{sup +0.02}(syst).
