Magnetic properties of DyCo{sub 5} and TbCo{sub 5} intermetallics from the electronic structure calculations
Abstract
LSDA and LSDA+U calculations, with spin-orbit coupling (SOC) included, were performed for DyCo{sub 5} and TbCo{sub 5} intermetallic compounds. In the case of magnetic moments, LSDA-SOC calculations give results in good agreement with the experimental data. However, LSDA has shown to be unable to predict relative stabilities of ferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic configurations of the 4f and 3d spin sublattices giving the wrong result that the ferromagnetic configuration is more stable. LSDA+U method cures this problem and gives correct result. Additionally, within the accuracy of available experimental data, the corresponding effective exchange fields are in reasonable agreement with experiment.

Full-potential linear-muffin-tin-orbital calculations of the magnetic properties of rare-earth{endash}transition-metal intermetallics. I. Description of the formalism and application to the series {ital R}Co{sub 5} ({ital R}=rare-earth atom)
For the series {ital R}Co{sub 5} ({ital R}=rare-earth atom) various parameters occurring in the two-sublattice model of rare-earth{endash}transition-metal intermetallics (local magnetic moments, intersublattice exchange fields, crystal field parameters, as well as magnetic hyperfine fields and electric field gradients) are calculated within the framework of the local-spin-density approximation (LSDA) and the full-potential linear-muffin-tin-orbital theory. Special emphasis is given to a determination of the crystal field parameter {ital A}{sup 0}{sub 2}. It is shown that it is absolutely indispensable to include the 5{ital p} states at the {ital R} site into the valence band and to avoid any spherical approximation for themore » -
The effect of boron doping on crystal structure, magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect of DyCo 2
In this study, the magnetic properties and magnetic entropy changes of DyCo 2B x (x=0, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2) alloys were investigated. The Curie temperature (TC) increases with increasing B concentration. The frequency dependence of ac magnetic susceptibility of DyCo 2 caused by the narrow domain wall pinning effect is depressed by B doping, but the coercivity and the magnetic viscosity are prominently increased in the B doped alloys. The magnetic transition nature of DyCo 2B x changes from the first-order to the second-order with increasing x, which leads to the decrease of the maximum magnetic entropy change. However, themore »Cited by 1 -
Optical spectra and electronic band structure calculations of {beta}'-(ET){sub 2}SF{sub 5}RSO{sub 3} (R=CH{sub 2}CF{sub 2}, CHFCF{sub 2} and CHF) : changing electronic properties by chemical tuning of the counterion.
We report the polarized infrared reflectance spectra, optical conductivity, and electronic band structure of metallic {beta}{prime}-(ET){sub 2}SF{sub 5}CHFSO{sub 3} and compare our results with those of the {beta}{prime}-(ET){sub 2}SF{sub 5}CH{sub 2}CF{sub 2}SO{sub 3} superconductor and the {beta}{prime}-(ET){sub 2}SF{sub 5}CHFCF{sub 2}SO{sub 3} metal/insulator material. We discuss the electronic structure of these organic molecular solids in terms of band structure, many-body effects, and disorder. On the basis of spectral similarities between the superconductor and metallic salts and structural differences in the anion pocket of all three, we conclude that the unusual electronic excitations observed in the {beta}{prime}-(ET){sub 2}SF{sub 5}CHFCF{sub 2}SO{sub 3} metal/insulatormore »
