Title: Unusual one-dimensional branched-chain structures assembled by a novel imidazole-containing tripodal ligand with cadmium(II) salts and their fluorescent property

Abstract

Three novel coordination polymers [Cd{sub 3}(L){sub 2}({mu}-Br)({mu}-Cl)Br{sub 3}Cl] (1), [Cd{sub 3}(L){sub 2}({mu}-Cl){sub 2}Cl{sub 4}] (2) and [Cd(L)Cl]{sub 2}[CdCl{sub 4}].H{sub 2}O (3) were obtained by reactions of an imidazole-containing tripodal ligand N {sup 1}-(2-aminoethyl)-N {sup 1}-(2-imidazolethyl)-ethane-1,2-diamine (L) with Cd(II) salts. Their structures were determined by X-ray crystallography. Crystal data for 1, monoclinic system, P2{sub 1}/c, a=7.752(4) A, b=31.70(2) A, c=14.012(7) A, {beta}=109.439(7){sup o}, V=3247(3) A{sup 3}, Z=4. 2, monoclinic system, P2{sub 1}/c, a=7.6564(15) A, b=31.433(6) A, c=13.925(3) A, {beta}=109.89(3){sup o}, V=3151.1(11) A{sup 3}, Z=4. 3, orthorhombic system, Pbcn, a=22.950(2) A, b=8.435(7) A, c=17.360(2) A, V=3360.3(51) A{sup 3}, Z=4. Complexes 1 and 2 have similar one-dimensional (1D) branched-chain structure while complex 3 features a 1D zigzag cationic chain with [CdCl{sub 4}]{sup 2-} serving as counter anion.   • Three new polymers, [Cd(L){sub 2}(H{sub 2}O){sub 2}]{sub n} (1), [Cd{sub 3}(L){sub 2}({mu}{sub 3}-OH){sub 2}({mu}{sub 2}-Cl){sub 2}(H{sub 2}O){sub 2}]{sub n} (2), {l_brace}[Cd{sub 2}(L){sub 2}(nic){sub 2}(H{sub 2}O){sub 2}]{center_dot}H{sub 2}O{r_brace}{sub n} (3) (HL=5-(4-((1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)methyl)phenyl)-1H-tetrazole, Hnic=nicotinic acid) have been prepared and structurally characterized. Compounds 1 and 2 display 2D monomolecular layers built by the inter-linking single helical chains and L{sup -} ligands connecting chain-like [Cd({mu}{sub 3}-OH)({mu}{sub 2}-Cl)]{sub n} secondary building units, respectively. Compound 3 is constructed from the mixed ligands and possesses a (3,4)-connected framework with (4{center_dot}8{sup 2})(4{center_dot}8{sup 2}{center_dot}10{sup 3}) topology. Moreover, the fluorescent properties of HL ligand and compounds 1-3 are also been investigated.more » - Graphical abstract: Three new coordination polymers based on the semi-rigid multidentate N-donor ligand have been successfully synthesized by hydrothermal reaction. Complexes 1 and 2 exhibit the 2D layers formed by inter-linking single helices and L{sup -} anions bridging 1D chain-like SBUs, respectively. Complex 3 is buit by L{sup -} and assistant nic{sup -} ligands connecting metal centers and possesses a (3,4)-connected framework with (4 Multiplication-Sign 8{sup 2})(4 Multiplication-Sign 8{sup 2} Multiplication-Sign 10{sup 3}) topology.   • The chemical preparation and crystal structure of the one-dimensional array compounds, ((DMF){sub 4}EuNi(CN){sub 4}){sub {infinity}} and ((DMF){sub 4}EuPt(CN){sub 4}){sub {infinity}} are discussed. Crystal lattice parameters, electrical conductivity, and infrared spectra are reported.
  • A cyclic voltammetry study in acetonitrile of ((C{sub 2}H{sub 5}){sub 4}N){sub 3}Nb{sub 6}Cl{sub 18} is presented that gives the first evidence for the existence at 1.72 V vs SCE of the 13-electron cluster core Nb{sub 6}Cl{sub 12}{sup 5+}, a novel powerful inorganic oxidant. The title compounds have been prepared by electrocrystallization and characterized by single-crystal x-ray diffraction, ESR, and magnetic susceptibility and transport experiments. The electronic structure of these salts has been studied by means of tight-binding band structure calculations. A unique magnetic interaction between the organic spins and the localized inorganic cluster spins is presented and discussed.
  • Three lead coordination polymers, [PbCl(C{sub 10}H{sub 6}N{sub 3}O{sub 4})(H{sub 2}O)·H{sub 2}O]{sub n} (1), [Pb(C{sub 10}H{sub 6}N{sub 3}O{sub 4}){sub 2}(H{sub 2}O)]{sub n} (2) and [Pb{sub 3}(C{sub 10}H{sub 5}N{sub 3}O{sub 4}){sub 3}]{sub n} (3) (C{sub 10}H{sub 7}N{sub 3}O{sub 4}=2-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid), have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In 1, Cl anions connected neighboring wave-like 2D layers, which are constructed with left- and right-handed helical chains, into a 3D network structure with a (6{sup 3})(6{sup 5}·8) topology. In 2, Pb cations are linked into a 3D 6{sup 6} network with left- and right-handed helixes by μ{sub 2}-bridging C{sub 10}H{submore » 6}N{sub 3}O{sub 4}{sup −} ligands. In 3, C{sub 10}H{sub 5}N{sub 3}O{sub 4}{sup 2−} ligands link Pb{sub 6}O{sub 12} clusters into a 3D (4{sup 12}·6{sup 3}) network.   • A novel one-dimensional copper (II) chlorophosphate, Na{sub 3}[CuO(HPO{sub 4})Cl] has been prepared by using the low-temperature flux method. It crystallizes in the orthorhombic system, space group Pnma, a=11.096(2), b=6.5703(13) and c=8.3623(17)A, V=609.7(2)A{sup 3}, Z=4. Its crystal structure presents a one-dimensional character in such a way that the edge-sharing CuO{sub 4}Cl{sub 2} building blocks yield a novel linear octahedral chains via Cu-O-Cu and Cu-Cl-Cu bridges. The HPO{sub 4} groups, as the modifier, are grafted onto these chains and sodium ions are located between the chains to satisfy the charge balance. The magnetic susceptibility obeys a Curie-Weiss law above 120K with C=0.38more » (emuK)/mol and {theta}=-150K, showing the Cu{sup 2+} character and antiferromagnetic interactions.« less
