Title: Moments of the hadronic invariant mass spectrum in B{yields}X{sub c}l{nu} decays at Belle

Abstract

We present a measurement of the hadronic invariant mass squared (M{sub X}{sup 2}) spectrum in charmed semileptonic B meson decays B{yields}X{sub c}l{nu} based on 140 fb{sup -1} of Belle data collected near the {upsilon}(4S) resonance. We determine the first, the second central, and the second noncentral moments of this spectrum for lepton energy thresholds ranging between 0.7 and 1.9 GeV. Full correlations between these measurements are evaluated.

  • We report a measurement of the inclusive electron energy spectrum for charmed semileptonic decays of B mesons in a 140 fb{sup -1} data sample collected at the {upsilon}(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e{sup +}e{sup -} collider. We determine the first four moments of the electron energy spectrum for threshold values of the electron energy between 0.4 and 2.0 GeV. In addition, we provide values of the partial branching fraction (zeroth moment) for the same electron threshold energies, and independent measurements of the B{sup +} and B{sup 0} partial branching fractions at 0.4 GeV andmore » 0.6 GeV electron threshold energies. We measure the independent B{sup +} and B{sup 0} partial branching fractions with electron threshold energies of 0.4 GeV to be {delta}B(B{sup +}{yields}X{sub c}e{nu})=(10.79{+-}0.25(stat.){+-}0.27(sys.))% and {delta}B(B{sup 0}{yields}X{sub c}e{nu})=(10.08{+-}0.30(stat.){+-}0.22(sys.))%. Full correlations between all measurements are evaluated.« less
  • Using the previous Belle measurement of the inclusive photon energy in B{yields}X{sub s}{gamma} decays, we determine the first and second moments of this spectrum for minimum photon energies in the B meson rest frame ranging from 1.8 to 2.3 GeV. Combining these measurements with recent Belle data on the lepton energy and hadronic mass moments in B{yields}X{sub c}l{nu} decays, we perform fits to theoretical expressions derived in the 1S and kinetic mass schemes and extract the magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element V{sub cb}, the b-quark mass, and other nonperturbative parameters. In the 1S scheme analysis we find |V{sub cb}|=(41.56{+-}0.68(fit){+-}0.08({tau}{submore » B}))x10{sup -3} and m{sub b}{sup 1S}=(4.723{+-}0.055) GeV. In the kinetic scheme, we obtain |V{sub cb}|=(41.58{+-}0.69(fit){+-}0.08({tau}{sub B}){+-}0.58(th))x10{sup -3} and m{sub b}{sup kin}=(4.543{+-}0.075) GeV.« less
  • We present results for the moments of observed spectra in inclusive semileptonic B-meson decays to charm hadrons B{yields}X{sub c}l{sup -{nu}}. Moments of the hadronic-mass and the combined mass-and-energy spectra for different minimum electron or muon momenta between 0.8 and 1.9 GeV/c are obtained from a sample of 232x10{sup 6} {Upsilon}(4S){yields}BB events, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-meson factory at SLAC. We also present a reevaluation of the moments of electron-energy spectra and partial decay fractions B(B{yields}X{sub c}e{sup -{nu}}) for minimum electron momenta between 0.6 and 1.5 GeV/c based on a sample of 51x10{sup 6} {Upsilon}(4S){yields}BB events.more » The measurements are used for the extraction of the total decay fraction, the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element |V{sub cb}|, the quark masses m{sub b} and m{sub c}, and four heavy-quark QCD parameters in the framework of a Heavy-Quark Expansion (HQE). We find B(B{yields}X{sub c}l{sup -{nu}})=(10.64{+-}0.17{+-}0.06)% and |V{sub cb}|=(42.05{+-}0.45{+-}0.70)x10{sup -3}.« less
  • We present a fit to measured moments of inclusive distributions in B{yields}X{sub c}l{nu} and B{yields}X{sub s}{gamma} decays to extract values for the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element |V{sub cb}|, the b- and c-quark masses, and higher-order parameters that appear in the heavy quark expansion. The fit is carried out using theoretical calculations in the kinetic scheme and includes moment measurements of the BABAR, Belle, CDF, CLEO, and DELPHI collaborations for which correlation matrices have been published. We find |V{sub cb}|=(41.96{+-}0.23{sub exp}{+-}0.35{sub HQE}{+-}0.59{sub {gamma}{sub S}{sub L}})x10{sup -3} and m{sub b}=4.590{+-}0.025{sub exp}{+-}0.030{sub HQE} GeV where the errors are experimental and theoretical respectively. Wemore » also derive values for the heavy quark distribution function parameters m{sub b} and {mu}{sub {pi}}{sup 2} in different theoretical schemes that can be used as input for the determination of |V{sub ub}|.« less
