Experimental study of the pd{yields}{sup 3}He K{sup +}K{sup -} and pd{yields}{sup 3}He {phi} reactions close to threshold
Abstract
Two-kaon production in proton-deuteron collisions has been studied at three energies close to threshold using a calibrated magnetic spectrograph to measure the final {sup 3}He and a vertex detector to measure the K{sup +}K{sup -} pair. Differential and total cross sections are presented for the production of {phi}-mesons, decaying through {phi}{yields}K{sup +}K{sup -}, as well as for prompt K{sup +}K{sup -} production. The prompt production seems to follow phase space in both its differential distributions and in its energy dependence. The amplitude for the pd{yields}{sup 3}He{phi} reaction varies little for excess energies below 22 MeV and the value is consistent with that obtained from a threshold measurement. The angular distribution of the K{sup +}K{sup -} decay pair shows that near threshold the {phi}-mesons are dominantly produced with polarization m=0 along the initial proton direction. No conclusive evidence for f{sub 0}(980) production is found in the data.

Near-threshold two-meson production via the reactions pd {yields} {sup 3}He{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}} and pd {yields} {sup 3}HeK{sup +}K{sup {minus}} was measured kinematically complete with the MOMO experiment at COSY. The obtained two-pion variant mass spectra and angular distributions depict a remarkable deviation from phase space. The two-kaon data are consistent with phase space topped by a clear signal of the {phi} meson.

K{sup -3}He and K{sup +}K{sup -} interactions in the pd{yields} {sup 3}He K{sup +}K{sup -} reaction
We investigate the K{sup -} {sup 3}He and K{sup +}K{sup -} interactions in the reaction pd{yields} {sup 3}He K{sup +}K{sup -} near threshold and compare our model calculations with data from the MOMO experiment at COSY-Juelich. A large attractive effective K{sup -}p amplitude would give a significant K{sup -} {sup 3}He final-state interaction effect, which is not supported by the experimental data. We also estimate upper limits for the a{sub 0}(980) and f{sub 0}(980) contributions to the produced K{sup +}K{sup -} pairs. -
Observation of B{sup +}{yields}{phi}{phi}K{sup +} and Evidence for B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}{phi}K{sup 0} below {eta}{sub c} Threshold
We report measurements of the decays B{sup +}{yields}{phi}{phi}K{sup +} and B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}{phi}K{sup 0} using a sample of 231x10{sup 6} BB pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The branching fractions are measured to be B(B{sup +}{yields}{phi}{phi}K{sup +})=(7.5{+-}1.0(stat){+-}0.7(syst))x10{sup -6} and B(B{sup 0}{yields}{phi}{phi}K{sup 0})=(4.1{sub -1.4}{sup +1.7}(stat){+-}0.4(syst))x10{sup -6} for a {phi}{phi} invariant mass below 2.85 GeV/c{sup 2}. -
Reactions {ital pd}{r_arrow}{sup 3}He{eta} and {ital pd}{r_arrow}{sup 3}He{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}} near the {eta} threshold
The reaction {ital pd}{r_arrow}{sup 3}He{eta} has been studied with the SPES2 spectrometer, for proton energies between 0.2 MeV and 11 MeV above threshold. The total cross section rises from 0.25 to 0.40 {mu}b in this region. The observed energy dependence can be attributed to the strong final state interaction. The angular distribution is nearly isotropic, consistent with {ital S} wave production. A measurement of the {ital pd}{r_arrow}{sup 3}He{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup {minus}} cross section in the threshold region is also presented. The setup, which is capable of producing 10{sup 5} tagged {eta}/s with only a few percent background, is used to investigatemore »
